

Way back when Season One launched (September 25th 2015), Vocal Edge was a project conceived by Brett, who at the time was a leader in Smule group, EP1C.
The auditions opened for a week, and between the 5 judges, Vocal Edge: Season 1 received a total of 212 auditions.

Vocal Edge was the FIRST Smule competition to feature OPTIONAL challenges which gave direct bonuses to people who took part, and the earlier you auditioned, the more challenges you could take part in.
Season One featured TWO optional challenges:

Sing a duet taking turns to sing one word each

Sing 'Wind beneath my wings' by bette midler, with the lyrics in reverse

Round One - Harmony
Round One had 79 people who submitted their songs successfully, from the 110 who successfuly passed the audition stage.
Of those 79 people, 38 of them had taken part in at least one optional challenge, earning them bonus points to advance.

Round Two - Acoustic
In Round 2, contestants had to perform a solo layer, acoustic track, meaning there was no opportunity to impress with harmonies or big powerful notes.
6/64 contestants earned a perfect score, and received immunity for the next round...!

Round Three - Partner Artists (Duets)
In this round, contestants were drawn randomly and paired with each other.
Each pair was then RANDOMLY given one of four songs performed by Smule Partner Artists.

Round Four - Backstreet Boys (Teams)
Contestants were placed into teams, with one of the judges heading up each team.
Eliminations were based on the ranking of the team, and each team had to perform a song by The Backstreet Boys.
The winning team had no eliminations, and it was at this point that a few awesome singers were eliminated in shock eliminations based on team performance.

Madonna Comeback Challenge
Previously eliminated contestants were given a public challenge at this point to submit any song by Madonna, in order to earn a spot back into the competition.
33 people submitted a Madonna track, and from those, 4 returned to the competition.

Secret Room Revealed...!!!
At this point, the secret room twist was revealed.
10 people had been invited personally by the judges to a mini-competition to earn their way into the main competition.
4 contestants were revealed and introduced into the competition.

Round Five - First Smule Song
The Top 20 contestants were now set a challenge.
The first song viewable on their smule profile was the song they had to record anew.
Lowest score in this round was 31/40, showing the high quality of submissions.

Round Six - Bond Themes
The task was simple.
Perform any theme from a Bond movie.
This round saw some AMAZING submissions, and two perfect scores!

Round Seven - Musical Theatre
When faced with the genre of musical theatre, the Top 10 contestants pulled out some of their best performances to date.
Indi, as expected in her favourite genre, had the highest ranking score, with an amazing rendition of a song from 'Dreamgirls'

Round Eight - Double Whammy
In round 8, the remaining eight contestants had to produce two songs each, one by Elton John,
and a different song, about break-ups.
Sam got a perfect Elton John score, and
Marco recieved a perfect score for his break-up song.

Round Nine - Pop Mashups
At this point of the competition, two previous contestants were drafted in as guest judges to accompany Brett, after personal issues caused the other judges to be removed from Vocal Edge.
Pop Mashups of at least three different songs proved taxing to the Top 5, and yet a perfect score still emerged...

Semi-Finals
Something Old, Something New
In the semi-finals, the challenge was to create an original song, based on the track provided
(written and performed by Brett on piano).
They also had to take an earlier song from the competition, and improve it, taking its critique into account.

battled it out to the death...!
The winner was Saralinda by a marginal TWO points.
