Tell us a little bit about yourself... where were you born, where did you grow up, married with children?
I was born and raised in the great state of Texas and live in the city of Dallas. Don't be fooled by all the country songs, Dallas, TX is as city as it gets, and I've never owned a cowboy hat or rode a horse. I am 25 years old, single as can be, with no children (can't imagine having kids right now, that's terrifying.) I'm a social worker and I love my job, but music is my first passion.
Do you remember the first CD/cassette (or even vinyl) that you bought?
The first CD I ever owned personally was Alanis Morissette's 'Jagged Little Pill.' It's still my favorite album of the 90s. So angsty. I had no idea what she meant in 'You Oughta Know' when she sang “Would she go down on you in the theater” but I would sing along with it loud and clear.
What are your favourites genres and era of music?
I mostly listen to indie/alternative rock, but I really love all genres. Other favorites would be folk, soul, jazz, and I also love me some musical theater. Every era has their high points for me, but I really love 90s music, especially the grunge rock of the 90s.
You've been in many competitions - how do you Vocal Edge measures up and why should people audition for us, as well as the other great competitions?
I have really enjoyed competing in competitions through Smule, and Vocal Edge is definitely at the top of that list. Vocal Edge is so professional, and so much time, thought, and preparation goes into every single aspect. It also pushes out your comfort zone through well crafted themed rounds. Although I had a lot of vocal experience going into my first season as a contestant, I grew so much in my abilities and confidence in genres that I did not feel comfortable with. And of course, these competitions are all about fun, and that should be the focus. If you love singing, put yourself out there and tryout for competitions, and through the process you will grow and become a more confident and experienced vocalist.
What made you want to join the VE team?
I love music, of course, but I also love helping others reach their full potential with their talent. I received so much encouragement and guidance with my vocal technique through the process, and I want to help others with theirs. Also, Vocal Edge is just a lot of fun, and I wanted to be apart of it in a bigger way.
What kind of coach do you think you will be? What will you expect from your team members?
I will be an encouraging coach, but I won't blow smoke. I can be critical when it comes to vocals, but every critique I give will be specific, respectful, and only to help the contestant grow. I'm going to push my team to be great because I know they will be capable of it. Also, I don't want to be embarrassed, so I expect blood, sweat, and tears until it's perfect. (Just kidding....or am I???)
One final thing... Boobs or Butts?
Well, I love both, but honestly, I'm a legs guy.
