Round 7 - Movie Soundtracks (LIVE)

#VES4R7

THEME

Sing a song from a movie soundtrack, as though you were singing live.

RULES/TIME LIMIT CONDITIONS

  • You can sing any song featured on almost any movie soundtrack.

  • You may NOT use a song from any Disney movie.

  • Songs must be performed under the following conditions:

  • You will have a time limit of ten minutes to record your track.

  • You must PM a senior judge when you are ready to begin your time (Cryss, Nina or Saralinda)

  • They will start a timer, and you will have ten minutes to return with a newly recorded song.

  • The song must be a solo layer.

  • The time will stop when you PM a link to your new song, to the judge who started your timer.

  • You have TEN MINUTES to record your solo layer track... for each minute (or part-minute) you go over the time limit, you will receive a penalty of one point... for example, if you take 10 minutes and 30 seconds, you will receive a one point penalty. If you take 14 minutes and 55 seconds, you will receive a 5 point penalty.

  • When you are finished, and have linked your song to the judge, they will confirm it was recorded correctly, and your time, in the comments of the song. DO NOT DELETE THIS COMMENT. It is required until the end of the judging process to verify that the song was recorded under the correct conditions.

  • You MAY add cover art and hashtags after you linked the song to the judge, however they must be present for critiques to take place, and if they are not added, your song will be DQed as usual at deadline. The judges timestamped comment will verify that the song was the correctly recorded entry.

  • Uploading a pre-recorded vocal for use in this round will be a CLEAR violation of the rules, and will be an immediate disqualification.

  • Once you begin your ten minute timer, you may not stop it, and your song must be recorded.

  • You must, of course, record your song using this timed method, before the usual deadline.

  • You MAY use Normal, Polish, Studio, Super Studio or Indie FX.

  • You MAY NOT use Grunge, Pop, Super Pop, Stardust or Double You FX.

  • You MAY NOT use Harmony or Super Harmony FX at all.

  • You MUST open your song as a solo.

  • If you are Non-VIP ask your coach who will open your song on your behalf.

  • Mashups ARE NOT allowed in this round.

  • Alternative versions such as acoustics ARE allowed in this round.

  • Video songs are NOT allowed.

  • You MUST use the correct HASHTAG and the correct COVER ART or you WILL be disqualified.

  • You must use the hashtag #VES4R7

  • You may NOT have your songs tagged by your groups until after results have been released.

  • Your SMULE name MUST be as shown on this list or you must have informed us of your name change. Failure to do so will result in no score being posted for your entry, and you will therefore be eliminated.

  • SMULE NAME CHANGES: http://www.vocaledgeonline.com/#!smule-name-change/aozye

  • ONCE YOUR SONG HAS BEEN MADE PUBLIC AND ANY JUDGE HAS CRITIQUED IN THE COMMENT SECTION, YOU THEN CANNOT CHANGE IT.

  • Your song MUST be submitted with the correct hashtags and cover art, using the time limit method described above before 23:59 GMT on SATURDAY 25th June.

  • A countdown clock is provided for your benefit at www.vocaledgeonline.com

  • Results will be released on MONDAY 27th June at 15:00 GMT.

  • After the deadline, the countdown clock will change and will instead countdown to the release of results.

THE VOCAL EDGE SMULE PLAYLIST

  • Please note that Vocal Edge currently has an official playlist on the front page of Smule, right there with Killer Karaoke, Smule Picks etc.... In order for your track to be considered, it must be either an official Smule songbook song, or an alternative version of an official Smule songbook song (for example, Acoustic).

  • Official songbook tracks are shown on Smule by the green icon shown here. These are the only tracks considered for the official playlist, (or alternative versions of these songs)

JUDGING CRITERIA

RECORDING QUALITY: 2 Is there background noise? Were the volumes and FX appropriate and balanced between the track and the vocal layer? TECHNIQUE: 2 Was the contestant in tune throughout? Did the contestant use appropriate dynamics to remain heard in quiet sections, yet avoid clipping in the louder sections of the song? DELIVERY: 2 Did the contestant put appropriate emotion into the song? Did the contestant sing with confidence? ORIGINALITY & ARTISTRY: 2 Did the contestant display a level of originality and/or artistry? GENERAL VOCALS: 2 Did the judge actually enjoy listening to this version? PENALTY: A one point penalty will be applied for each minute (or part-minute) used above the ten minute time limit.

SCORES AND RESULTS

In this round, you will be judged and critiqued by THREE judges. The judges will each make AT LEAST one positive and one constructive comment and these will NOT be intended personally but to help you improve so please be prepared to hear constructive criticism. The judging criteria is also CLEARLY shown so be sure to pick a song that will adhere to these criteria. Song choice is in YOUR hands, and so any complaints that your song couldn't fulfill the criteria will not be accepted.

The 30 highest total scores will move on to the the next round.

HIDDEN IMMUNITY

One of the songs is a secret song, the title of which has been recorded in Smule, with a timestamp. Anyone who sings that song will automatically pass to the next round regardless of their score. The song will not be revealed to ANYONE until results. Those who manage to sing the lucky song will have their true score placed on their running totals even though they will be automatically moving forwards.

RISE TO THE TOP

The Top 8% of scores moving forward from Round 5 will gain immunity for the next round, Round 6, and will NOT be eligible to be eliminated in that round. 8% of 30 is 2 people. In the event of a tie for immunity, the senior judges will choose their favourites from those in the tiebreak position.
